Clinical Expertise

  • Using various methods of oncoplastic surgery to allow breast cancer removal and maintain or improve the aesthetics of the breast after cancer surgery
  • Use of mammoplasty techniques to reshape the breast for more “youthful” appearance (rounder and perkier)
  • Use of volume replacement techniques to replace volume removed during cancer surgery to maintain the original volume of the breast
  • Use of minimally invasive techniques such a ultrasound guided vacuum assisted biopsy (mammotome) to remove breast lumps / lesions
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy and targeted axillary node dissection for breast cancer treatment
  • “Wire-less” techniques to localize and excise non-palpable breast lesions
  • Skin & nipple sparing mastectomy with plans for immediate reconstruction
  • Nipple-sparing mastectomy without reconstruction for minimal scar mastectomy
  • Use of minimally invasive parathyroidectomy to localize and remove parathyroid tumor

Dr Jesse Hu firmly believes every patient deserves a tailored treatment that best enables them to live life to the fullest after treatment. Her dual expertise in cancer removal and plastic surgery techniques expands the design of individualized treatments, leading to holistic patient outcomes. Drawing from her personal experience as a woman and working mother, Dr Jesse advises her patients on their treatments in an approachable and empathetic manner.

Academic Contributions

Dr Jesse was part of the teaching faculties of both NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, where she teaches and mentors the next generation of medical students and trainee doctors. She has authored various book chapters, in particular for Textbook of Endocrine Surgery which is considered the leading resource on endocrine surgery.

Research Interests

Dr Jesse is recognized as an authority in breast cancer and thyroid surgery and a sought-after conference speaker. She has authored numerous papers, notably the internationally recognized Cochrane review on Oncoplastic Breast Conserving Surgery for Women with Primary Breast Cancer.

Other Activities

Dr Jesse is actively involved in promoting breast cancer awareness through medical talks in Singapore and in overseas medical missions to empower all women to make the right choice for their health.

Outside of work, Dr Jesse continues to shape the lives of her three children while tending to a stubborn vegetable garden which supports her kitchen adventures.
