Dr Victor Wang is a fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who sub-specialises in Spine surgery.
He completed his undergraduate medical training and graduated from the National University of Singapore, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2006. He successfully obtained his postgraduate qualifications for Orthopaedic Surgery as Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom (Orthopaedics) in 2016. Following attainment of SMC and MOH specialist registration in the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr Wang joined Woodlands Health in 2017 as a specialist Orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty interest in Spine Surgery. He was pivotal in setting up the combined spine service in Woodlands Health, being the first Programme Lead for the Combined Spine Programme.
Dr Wang was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship in 2019 and subsequently completed a one-year fellowship programme at the Hokkaido Medical Centre, National Hospital Organisation in Sapporo, Japan. During his fellowship, he worked with internationally renowned spine surgeons and received valuable insight in the realms of complex spinal deformity correction surgeries and revision spine surgeries.
Prior to the completion of Woodlands Health Campus, Dr Wang practised as a specialist Orthopaedic surgeon in Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he further developed and fine-tuned his skills in spine surgery, particularly in the areas of minimally invasive spine surgery as well as navigation/robot-assisted spine surgeries. His practice interests include: Minimally-invasive spine surgery, Navigation/Robot-assisted spine surgeries, Intervertebral disc-related diseases and Adult Spinal Deformities. A keen believer in the application of technology in evidence-based practice, Dr Wang has vast experience in utilising Computer Navigation for major spine surgeries.
Dr Wang’s expertise in the field of spine surgery extends beyond a pure clinical one – He was involved in the establishment of The NHG Spine Centre and was appointed as one of the inaugural members of Executive Committee (EXCO). Being a strong proponent of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) principles, he is passionate towards optimising post-surgical recovery of his patients and was a key contributor to the enhanced post-operative recovery protocols for spine surgeries at Woodlands Health.
Outside of clinical work, Dr Wang has a keen interest in clinical research and education. He was the winner of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association P Balasubramaniam Young Orthopaedic Investigator’s Award 2009 and has also published in various international journals. As a clinician educator, he has performed various mentoring roles for the Singapore medical schools – He served as Clinical Assistant Professor for Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS) and Clinical Teacher/Content Expert for Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU). Apart from teaching undergraduates, he is also actively involved in the training of junior doctors and residents.
